A quarterback misses because the whole answer arrived too expensively. The eyes took too long to settle on the useful clue. The decision stayed noisy one beat too long. The feet had to move while the answer was still being negotiated. By the time the ball leaves the hand, the real cost has often already been paid.
That is why quarterback accuracy improves faster when coaches stop treating it like a pure mechanics conversation and start treating it like a body-brain timing problem. See the right thing earlier. Keep the platform affordable once it appears. Throw on the same clock every time. That is where the ball starts getting cleaner.
What the expertise research actually showed
The strongest general paper in this lane is still the 2007 perceptual-cognitive meta-analysis that pooled 42 sport studies and 388 effect sizes. It found that experts were better than nonexperts in response accuracy and response time. It also found systematic visual-search differences: experts used fewer visual fixations of longer duration, including longer quiet-eye periods.
That matters because it gives accuracy a more honest starting point. Better performers are not only moving better. They are seeing sooner and seeing more cleanly.

How to build a better accuracy block this week
Keep it small. One concept. One pricing clue. One throw family.
Start on film. Show the rep and freeze it just before the answer becomes obvious. Ask the quarterback to name the clue and the throw. If he cannot, replay it slower and teach the clue. If he can, move on.
Then take the same football question to the field. Give the quarterback the same read family and same timing demand. Score three things only: did the eyes get to the right clue, did the feet stay organized when it appeared, and did the ball leave on time. That is enough. You do not need ten mechanical cues stacked on top of it.
Now change one layer. Rotate the shell later. Move the launch point a little. Add a reset. Shorten the decision window. If the ball quality immediately degrades, the athlete did not lose accuracy randomly. He lost the ability to carry the same answer into a changed picture.

The best accuracy blocks also keep the correction small. If the eyes were wrong, fix the clue. If the feet were wrong, shrink the movement demand. If the answer arrived late, cut the rep earlier on film and make the prediction happen sooner. Big speeches after every miss usually make accuracy worse because they drown the athlete in explanations instead of sharpening the one thing that actually failed.

If the quarterback misses high, ask whether the platform was rushed because the clue arrived late. If he misses behind, ask whether the answer was double-checked instead of trusted. If he is accurate in warmups and sloppy in live periods, ask what changed in the picture, not only in the shoulder.
Then build one retest block around that answer. Same concept. Same clue. First in a clean setting, then in a slightly changed one. Accuracy improves when the quarterback learns to solve the picture sooner and keep the body attached to that solve. It does not improve nearly as fast when the room only says, Be more accurate.
That is the reason the best throwing periods look a little boring. There is less random cueing. Less panic correction. More attention paid to what the athlete saw, when he trusted it, and whether the body stayed cheap enough to deliver it.
